I could never understand why packaged foods always have the phrase “serving suggestion” when the product is displayed on the package.

A possible scenario:

Hmmm. I'd really like to eat this and share it with my friends and family. I'm sure they'd enjoy it as much as I would, but passing a bag around seems a little crude. What can I do? Wait a minute, that serving suggestion gave me an idea. I could put these chips in a bowl, and we could share them more easily. Good thing I noticed that. Never would have considered it, otherwise.
